Hello Fellow Mensans and Guests!
On Monday, June 10th, Ad Astra Mensa (Topeka, Lawrence, and really anywhere in northeast Kansas or within driving distance of Topeka) met for dinner and conversation at The Blind Tiger Brewery & Restaurant in Topeka.
Although we talked of many things, the discussion largely focused on activities we could have in addition to our regular meetings at the Blind Tiger. One idea we decided to pursue is a trip to NOTO (the North Topeka arts district). We will begin by meeting on Thursday, July 25th at 4:00 pm at the Round Table Bookstore (826 N Kansas Avenue), which sells new, used, and bargain books. They have tables and chairs where people can meet and chat. They serve some alcoholic drinks as well as coffees and other non-alcoholic beverages. For more information, see https://www.roundtablebookstore.com/.
After spending some time at the bookstore, we will adjourn at 6:00 pm for dinner at The Norseman Brewing Company (830 N Kansas Avenue): https://norsemenbrewingco.com/. If you plan to attend, it is very important that you RSVP to me at [email protected] by July 24th so we can let the restaurant know how many are coming. Let me say that this event has been somewhat complicated to organize, so I apologize if it does not meet all your desires. I hope you can attend, and I hope to hear from you.
In addition to the NOTO outing, we discussed some other ideas for Ad Astra alternative events. Dianne is in charge of organizing a book club, at which any member could talk about any book that they have read recently or in the past. No book would be assigned for everyone to read. More details about this event will be forthcoming.
In addition, Marjie is in charge of finding out about eating at the Kiku Japanese restaurant, where food is prepared on a grill at large table. A head count would be especially important for this event.
Richard is responsible for finding out about ghost tours in Topeka. And there was discussion of a games event, but I am not sure where we left that.
If you have other ideas for activities and are willing to help organize them, we are always open to suggestions.
Finally, please do not forget about our regularly scheduled Second Monday dinner meeting at 6:00 pm on July 8th at the Blind Tiger Brewery and Restaurant. Guests are welcome, just please let us know that they are coming. Ask for Mensa at the front desk. We hope to see you on Monday, July 8th and again on Thursday, July 25th. If you can make it to either or both events, please contact me at [email protected].
