Theodore Talk: Munich and the Rise of the Nazi Party

Sunday, February 22nd, 2026, at 2:30 pm via Zoom

Adolf Hitler once referred to Munich as the capital of the Nazi movement, a title he officially conferred on the city in 1935. Dr. Shelly Cline, Historian and Director of Education at the Midwest Center for Holocaust Education, will explore Munich’s central role in the rise of National Socialism — from its roots in the aftermath of World War I, through Hitler’s transformation of the Nazi Party, to the city’s function within the broader machinery of the Third Reich. The presentation will also examine how Munich has since reckoned with this historical complexity and troubling legacy.

Theodore Talks take place via the Zoom video conferencing platform on the fourth Sunday of each month at 2:30 pm (CT). Even if you can’t attend the live lecture and discussion which follows, as long as you register in advance you will receive a link to the Zoom recording of the entire event. All Theodore Talks will have closed captioning enabled and this year we are offering Translated Captions as well. A list of future Theodore Talks can be found on the American Mensa National Events Calendar at https://www.us.mensa.org/attend/calendar/, or by viewing the January issue of the Mensa Bulletin.

Thank you for your support of the Theodore Talk lecture series which is offered free to all Mensa members in an effort to provide more value to Mensa membership. Theodore Talks lectures are now being made possible by the generosity and financial support of Life Member Dr. Mark Cohen.
