Our Annual Thanksgiving Dinner is almost here, less than two weeks away. We are thankful to gather together with our Mensa friends, old and new, before we all scatter in December for a multitude of Christmas activities and festivities.

On Saturday, November 22nd from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., we’ll gather in the lovely Clubroom (2nd Floor) at Crestone Senior Living, 21810 W 119th Street, Olathe, KS. It’s a great venue for our event. Gracious and comfortable surroundings, a full kitchen, two coffee makers (regular and decaf), dishwasher, microwave, and almost anything else you could want to put the last-minute finishing touches on your side dish.

It would be appreciated if you could come early (1:00 p.m.) to help with set-up and organization to be ready for everyone else who will arrive at 2:00 p.m. If you are able and willing to help provide transportation to someone in need or you need help with a ride to our potluck dinner, please contact LocSec Tony Jackowski.

We have turkey and gravy; we have ham and glaze. What is your favorite dish to help make our feast memorable?

Diana says she already can see: Charcuterie Board, Dinner Rolls, Pumpkin Bread, Sauerkraut Casserole, Tossed Salad & Dressing, Apple Cider, Cranberry Juice, Wine, Soft Drinks, and Classic Eggnog.

But she doesn’t yet see any potatoes, either white or yellow. Mashed potatoes? And amazingly, where are the desserts? Pumpkin pie, anyone? There are plenty of open slots and opportunities to add to the fruit of our labor.

This year’s entertainment will be the White Elephant Auction that was supposed to happen at the Picnic That Didn’t Happen. If you still have all the items you were planning to offer back in June, now is the time to bring them.

And in the spirit of thankfulness in this Thanksgiving holiday season, please bring something to donate to Harvesters Community Food Network. As you are no doubt aware, food and food supplies for families less fortunate than our own are at an all-time low. You can bring checks made out to Harvesters if that’s easier to carry than a 6-pack of canned goods. Harvesters can probably make each dollar stretch farther than we can.

Whatever you decide, we’ll be delighted to see you. Have a Happy Thanksgiving!!
