Ad Astra Mensa has been busy!! On July 25th we held a special event at the Round Table Bookstore in NOTO (the North Topeka Arts District). We browsed and conversed for a couple of hours, then adjourned for dinner at the nearby Norseman Brewery. There we talked about many subjects, including books (of course), travel, things to do in Topeka, fear of heights, adult education, politics and why we joined Mensa.

We met again on August 12th for our regular monthly meeting at the Blind Tiger. A spirited and interesting discussion was held of antipodes, earth and water spirits, Truckhenge, and other topics.

There’s more Ad Astra!
Not your ordinary Book Discussion Group!

Saturday, September 28th, 10:00 am
Café Quetzal Meeting Room, 2111 SW Belle, Topeka KS

I (Dianne Lawson) have attended several book discussion groups in the past, but always dropped out because I never liked the book that everybody was supposed to read. Then I found a book discussion group in which everyone talked about any book they liked; one they had just finished or had read many years ago; books they liked or that were meaningful to them. It was wonderful.

We hope to recreate that experience. We will meet at a different time than the usual monthly meetings, in the daytime, in hopes that others who cannot meet on Monday evenings will be able to attend.

Tell us about any book you want, or just listen to others. Time to talk about each book will be limited, probably just a few minutes per book, depending on the number of attendees.

Café Quetzal has lots of drink selections: teas, lattes, and coffees. They serve breakfast and lunch all day long. Breakfast items include breakfast burrito, quiche, muffins, and yogurt parfait. Lunch could be a sandwich, a salad, or a soup. They also have sweets and snacks.

Come at 10:00 am to grab something to eat and drink or just spend the time having a little conversation. We will start talking about books at 11:00 am. We hope to see you there!

Please RSVP for either or both events to John at his contact info shown in the Mension. Visitors, family, friends … all are welcome, but it is extremely helpful to let the venues know how many are expected so they can provide adequate seating.
